Dr. Ioannou is a general surgeon specialised in advance laparoscopic and bariatric surgery. He graduated from the University of Vienna as a doctor of medicine and completed his surgical training at New York University Medical Center, New York NY as a Chief resident at the department of surgery.
Prior to that he completed 1 year of residency at the department of paediatrics at New York University medical center, New York NY.Dr. Ioannou is diplomate of the American Board of surgery rectified in 2023.

He is fellow of the American College of Surgeons (ACS), fellow of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). He is also a regular member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic surgeons (SAGES) as well as being a regular member of the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO) and the European Surgical Society.Dr. Ioannou is a clinical professor in surgery at the University of Nicosia Medical School.His experience in surgery extends as far back as 1996 in private practice after completion of his training in the United States.

Dr. Ioannou also performs surgeries at the Ygeia Policlinic in Limassol.
